In 2024's last segment in the series of Dialogues between myself and fellow Thinking Environment Faculty colleague Sophie Stephenson, we explore a question posed by Nancy Kline in a recent Faculty Forum:

Is it possible that untrue limiting bedrock assumptions (about the self and life) may be universally held, but that true liberating alternative assumptions are uniquely constructed?

In the ways in which Thinking Environment dialogue is always, for me, richly resonant with both convergence and divergence, this exchange took Sophie and I into fresh insights and more questions.

One thing I know for sure is that a life lived ignorant of the impact and consequence of the assumptions being made is a very hard way to live. Whilst the responsibility required to take both cognisance and ownership of our assumptions is demanding and requires discipline and consistency, I believe it is, without a doubt, a life of freedom and possibility in comparison.

With love from my brave heart to yours,

Trisha Lord
